Yoga and Expressive Arts Therapy

“Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain.”

As a psychotherapist, yoga teacher, and artist, I work with the body, mind, and creative spirit. Yoga and Creative Expression offerings are not limited to the avid yoga practitioner or everyday artist. It is for anyone who is open to learning more about themselves by exploring their subconscious and creative mind, and somatic (body-based) wisdom.

Yoga & Therapy

Yoga lends itself beautifully to the psychotherapy practice in its ability to help you move through feelings while remaining grounded in your body and breath. As we experience greater depths of spaciousness and peace in the body, in turn, it affects the mind. If appropriate, I may introduce some breathing techniques, yoga postures, and meditations to bring the body and mind into balance. Yoga and somatic-based techniques inform us in the way our posture changes in certain situations; in the physical sensations we feel upon discussing emotional topics; in the “knowing” we feel in our hearts and in our gut. My job is to help you discover more congruence between your somatic experience and your mind, to help you feel more comfortable in your own skin.

What can Yoga help me with in therapy?

  • Recalibrate the nervous system after processing trauma
  • Deepen compassion towards one’s physical and emotional body
  • Increase self-awareness
  • Cultivate a self-care practice

Expressive Arts Therapy

We can connect to a deeper part of ourselves when we are immersed in the creative process. Creative expression is a useful tool to encourage unique and new ways of seeing situations and moving out of stuck-ness.  When we make room for all parts of ourselves to feel seen — creativity included — we unfold into our own innate wholeness.

Creative Modalities Offered:

  • rituals for grief and healing past trauma
  • writing and poetry
  • guided meditation
  • collage and vision boards
  • sand tray
  • drawing, painting, and other art making to tap into the creative inner world

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” ~ Pablo Picasso
